Kelly helps owners with young, green, or misbehaving horses solve their problems in a gentle and effective manner. Each custom training program is tailored to the needs of the individual horse in order to produce a calm, willing mount who is a joy to be around. Her training lays a solid foundation of core skills on the ground such as standing for mounting farrier work and bathing, ground tying, loading, cross tying, longeing, respecting personal space, and maneuvering easily forwards, backwards, and sideways. Each horse will return home with a firm grasp of these essential skills.
Under saddle, each horse will learn to properly use their body and to move forward and relaxed in a correct frame. Riders will be taught how to ride their horses “back to front” in order to keep them light and supple. Trail horses and jumpers will be given exercises to increase their confidence in their respective disciplines. At the end of training, each horse will graduate with three relaxed, round, adjustable paces, a wealth of self-confidence, an understanding of bit pressure and lightness to the aids, and the foundational skills needed to go safely, swiftly and successfully forward in any direction their owner wishes to take.
Training generally takes anywhere from two weeks to three months. Owners are guaranteed to see an improvement within the first two weeks of training. Short courses on the ground for pushy or difficult horses are offered. Visit the Equine Etiquette Courses page for more info.
